Floodlothians attend Stormwater Program in Dolton, IL

6/18/2014

Residents from Midlothian, Illinois attended the June 16 presentation of the Stormwater from the Ground Up program at the Dolton Public Library. They shared their neighborhood's flooding problems and their attempts to get help.

At nearly every place we bring the program, League members meet people whose homes suffer from chronic flooding.  While we appreciate their thanks for some new ideas about how to address their problems, it is clear that people are overwhelmed.  Additional governmental efforts to assist individuals is needed.

This morning, longtime LWVLMR member Jeanette Neagu gave a caucus on the dangers of above-ground chemical containers.  She empowered other League members from around the country to research tanks that are near sources of drinking water and the status of their state inspection programs (if any).  Connie Lewis of LWV West Virginia shared the experience of her community from the large chemical leak there last year.
