Field Trips on Friday, October 25
All trips begin at 2:30 pm.  Meet at the Lakeside Inn to check in and arrange carpools. The trips will last approximately 2.5 hours.

Pokagon Environmental Programs

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi is taking progressive steps to restore and ecologically enhance their traditional land base.  See the results of efforts to re-create historic wetlands and to control highly invasive reed canary grass threatening native wetland plant species such as lake and river wild rice.

Galien River County Park

The Galien River County Park in New Buffalo Township  is an example of recent conservation efforts of upland and especially significant wetland habitats. Walk along hard surface, barrier free trails including the Marsh Boardwalk and a 300' Canopy Walkway that leads to the Marsh Overlook Tower.

Galien River Sanitary District

Wastewater treatment practices are crucial to river and Lake Michigan water quality. Tour the Galien River Sanitary District Sewer Authority wastewater treatment plant, which serves the cities of New Buffalo and Bridgman, and New Buffalo, Chikaming and Lake Townships. Learn about efforts to protect our waters.
