Managing Stormwater/Protecting Lake Michigan:
Determining the Future Now

Picture
Several Leagues of Women Voters joined forces on October 21, 2014 to sponsor a public program on stormwater planning at New Trier High School (West) in Northfield, Illinois.  This program expanded on the examination of stormwater begun by the League in Spring, 2013. The Oct. 21 program's expert panel provided context for a discussion of stormwater planning on the North Shore, with presentations on:
  • the condition of/challenges to Lake Michigan,
  • a broad range of green stormwater tools,
  • the integral approach taken by the Village of Glenview's Stormwater Taskforce,
  • the Village of Winnetka's stormwater management plan, which includes a controversial proposed tunnel conveying stormwater to Lake Michigan, and
  • the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's stormwater discharge process for permits and public comment.

Watch the video of the presentation in its entirety (1:59:23) at left.

The speakers' powerpoint presentations are posted below in the order they appeared on the program.
